Standing Waves was the first piece I composed for Wet Ink Ensemble. When I wrote the piece I had been making many recordings of ensembles. A sonic element that came to the fore for me was the size and acoustic of sonic spaces. I imagined a piece were the size and shape of the room was in constant flux, expanding and contracting. Standing Waves is an orchestration of this idea.
