Oracle Machines (2026) is a large ensemble work that was written for an all-star group of improvisers and contemporary music performers, The Sam Pluta Big Band:

This piece combines various kinds of notation and improvisation practices, often with multiple modes of expression happening simultaneously. Scored elements overlap with solo and group improvisations. The entire room feeds back on top of improvised swells and gyrations. In the middle, there is a six minute laptop ensemble work. Everyone is given a chance for duo performance. Electronics appear as playback, live processing, and as neural network controlled noise walls.
The Oracle Machines in this work (a reference to Alan Turing concept of an oracle) are not my neural network models, but rather the performers themselves, who are presented with musical problems and are more than capable of solving them magically in real-time.
A video recording of this work is currently in production and will be available in the winter of 2027.
